Dive Brief:
- Temenos appointed VMware executive Jean-Pierre Brulard as its next CEO, effective May 1, the Geneva, Switzerland-based banking software company announced Tuesday.
- Temenos had lacked a permanent CEO since January 2023, when Max Chuard left the role.
- With Brulard’s hiring, Temenos’s executive chairman, Andreas Andreades, will retire, the company said. Andreades had served as interim CEO since Chuard’s departure.
Dive Insight:
Andreades has been a mainstay at Temenos since joining in 1999 as CFO. He served as CEO of the banking software firm from 2003 to 2011, and became executive chair thereafter, according to his LinkedIn profile.
“It has been a great privilege to build and lead Temenos over the years through its evolution,” Andreades said. “The excellence of the team, the product and the outstanding client references are fundamental to its success and will position the business for an exciting future under the new leadership.”
Brulard, meanwhile, takes the reins after a 15-year stint at VMware, where he serves as executive vice president for worldwide sales, according to his LinkedIn profile.
In a statement, Temenos’s non-executive chair, Thibault de Tersant, called Brulard a “proven leader of large, global, high-growth organizations.”
Brulard “has extensive operational and strategic planning expertise, and an excellent understanding of our clients’ [software-as-a-service] transformation requirements, through working with some of the world’s largest banks,” de Tersant said. “His management of the migration of the VMWare business model to subscription and SaaS whilst delivering [annual recurring revenue] and revenue growth was a critical factor in his appointment.”
Brulard said he is “excited” for Temenos’s “next phase of growth.”
“The financial services industry is going through a period of significant technological transformation and with the quality and breadth of solutions, Temenos is perfectly positioned to work with clients to lead this strategic change,” he said.
Temenos will disclose compensation details surrounding the leadership change “in due course,” the company said.
De Tersant, meanwhile, praised Andreades for his “commitment, passion and determination,” which he said “have been critical in building Temenos into a global leader in banking software.”
