Matt Boss, TD’s U.S. consumer-banking chief, will join Citizens Bank as head of consumer banking, effective May 5, the Providence, Rhode Island-based lender said Monday.
Michelle Moosally, Wells Fargo’s global head of regulatory relations, will also join Citizens, effective May 15, as general counsel and chief legal officer.
Each will join Citizens’ executive committee.
Boss will report to Citizens’ head of consumer banking, Brendan Coughlin, who will become vice chair of consumer, private banking and wealth.
“Matt is a future-focused leader with a demonstrated track record of driving strong results in the face of a rapidly evolving competitive landscape,” Coughlin said in a prepared statement. “As we build off of the business’s transformed foundation since our IPO, his experience and customer centricity make him the right leader to take the Consumer business to the next level.”
Boss took on the role of head of consumer banking at TD last April to help the bank move forward with its plans to open 150 branches by 2027.
Plans changed weeks later, though, when TD’s fentanyl-tied anti-money laundering scandal broke. The bank reeled in its expansion plans, and in October was hit with $3.09 billion in fines and an asset cap on its U.S. retail operations.
Moosally, who will report to CEO Bruce Van Saun, brings “tremendous experience and deep expertise in helping large financial services companies navigate change and deliver growth,” Van Saun said. Prior to her three-year stint at Wells Fargo, Moosally worked for five years as Santander’s general counsel of corporate and investment banking and commercial banking. She also previously held roles at JPMorgan Chase, Bear Stearns and the law firm Cadwalader Wickersham & Taft.
Moosally fills a gap left by Polly Klane, who became Citizens’ general counsel and CLO in April 2022. She left Citizens in February for a similar position at financial services firm Corebridge Financial, according to her LinkedIn.
Boss, meanwhile, has been with TD since September 2017, according to his LinkedIn, when he joined as head of U.S. credit cards and unsecured lending.
Several high-profile executives have left TD in the wake of the AML scandal, including now-former CEO Bharat Masrani; the bank’s chief global AML officer, Herb Mazariegos; and its chief compliance officer, Monica Kowal.
