BNY Mellon has hired Shannon Hobbs as its next chief people officer, effective June 3.
Hobbs joins the firm from Geico, where she’s held a similar role for two years. She will report to CEO Robin Vince and will be a member of BNY Mellon’s executive committee, the bank said Thursday.
Hobbs takes the reins from Alejandro Perez, BNY Mellon’s chief administrative officer, who has served as interim chief people officer since Jolen Anderson moved on from the role in February. Anderson had held the role, originally called chief human resources officer, since 2019.
During her tenure, Anderson launched leadership and learning programs for BNY Mellon employees, and led the company’s investment in well-being programs including mental health benefits and paternity leave, according to her LinkedIn profile. She’s since become chief people and community officer at BetterUp, a leadership coaching platform.
Vince characterized BNY Mellon’s people team “central to how we will continue to succeed as a firm and as a top talent destination.”
“Shannon is a proven leader with a commercial mindset, and deep expertise in operational and transformational leadership within our industry,” he said. “We are delighted to welcome her to BNY Mellon as we continue to power our culture.”
Prior to her time at Geico, Hobbs spent nearly two years as chief human resources officer at American Century Investments, a private investment management firm.
She spent about 10 years at JPMorgan Chase before that — most recently, as managing director and head of talent, where, according to her LinkedIn profile, she led global talent management and learning and development for the firm’s then-250,000 employees.
“This is an incredibly exciting time to be joining BNY Mellon,” Hobbs said in the news release. “The pace of change in financial services has never been faster, but the differentiator will always be culture and our talent ... I am looking forward to working with BNY Mellon's talented people and leaders as we continue to build and empower a world-class team that helps our clients achieve their ambitions.”
